Your Moon: what gets read there, and why it isn't the same as your sign
Some people work beautifully out in the world and come home to nothing. Others struggle to get out the door but have everything they need once they're in.
That difference isn't looked for in your sign. It's looked for in the Moon.
The Sun and the Moon aren't read the same way
In psychological astrology, the Moon is used to explore questions about rest, care and emotional security. It's a symbolic perspective, not a proven explanation of why anything happens to anyone.
Within that reading, the Sun is associated with direction — where you're headed, what you're building — and the Moon with what you need to sustain it: the rest, the shelter, whatever puts you back on your axis.
They're two different questions and it's easy to answer only one. That isn't a rule about anybody, but it is a question worth asking: did you build your life around the first and leave the second unexamined?
In the personal book the Moon gets its own chapter, and it's the second one. Before how you think, before how you love, before how you work. On purpose: everything else reads differently depending on where that stands.
What questions it opens
Not "you're sensitive." Smaller, more useful questions: whether you recover alone or in company. Whether you need things decided or need them left open. What kind of mess makes you anxious and what kind you don't notice. How much warning you need before a change.
None of those answers is determined by your chart. What a chapter does is put them on the table in words, which is exactly the hard part when you have to ask for them. It's difficult to negotiate something you can't name.
When the birth time is unknown
Without a birth time some positions stay uncertain, and the Moon is the most delicate case: it moves faster than any planet in the chart, around thirteen degrees a day.
When there's no time we use noon as a reference. That isn't necessarily the position at the moment you were born.
Most of the time it doesn't matter. But if the Moon changed signs on your birth date, which one applies depends on the hour, and no calculation resolves it: we can work out when the change happened, not when you were born. That's why we don't present a reference position as if it were a certainty about you.
We'd rather say so up front than have you find out while reading.
